IE6 Will No Longer Be Supported

Last week Google announced that they will no longer be supporting Internet Explorer 6.
In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more sophisticated features and performance, we are harnessing some of the latest improvements in web browser technology. This includes faster JavaScript processing and new standards like HTML5. As a result, over the course of 2010, we will be phasing out support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as other older browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers.
Since Google’s sites (Gmail, Docs, Apps, Calender, etc.) will no longer support IE6, it should come as no surprise that MCGWD will officially no longer support that browser either (Actually, I stopped supporting IE6 the first of 2010, and this very site is unsupported). This basically means websites will still render with IE6, but it may not always look pretty, or display the same way as newer browsers will.
By no longer maintaining support for this old and insecure browser, I will be able to decrease development time, thus reducing the costs passed onto my customers. It’s a win-win. However, if your project does require IE6 support, please let me know up-front. I can still add IE6 support to new projects, but beware I will need to charge extra to do so. Also, I have no intention of dropping support for IE7+ anytime soon.

For both performance and security reasons, I always recommend using the latest version of your chosen browser. Please consider upgrading now, by selecting one of the browsers below.

It has been a long time…

It has been a very long time (almost 17 months) since I posted something in this blog. 2009 was a very busy year — work wise — for me, and I neglected not only this blog, but my entire site. After a few potential clients asked me for examples of my work, I noticed I hadn’t updated my portfolio in 14+ months. So, for the last few weeks I redesigned the website, updated the portfolio and finally designed the blog section to match the rest of the site.
Now that the entire site is 98% complete, I’d like to get into the habit of posting here more often — when time permits.
My goal is to actually use this blog as a resource to free up some time. To accomplish this I’ll be posting resources and how-tos from the frequently asked questions I get from new, and old, clients. I envision allot of these future posts will become a kind of “knowledge base” that I can quickly refer people to. Thus, reducing my time explaining, or compiling lists, each and every time I’m asked. For the more random stuff, like freebies that I often come across, I’ll just use Twitter. You can follow me there at: twitter.com/mginop.

Website Redesign Noted in Michigan Newspapers

There is a nice little write-up in the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers regarding the recent website redesign I did for the Building Industry Association of Southeastern Michigan. Here is a couple of excerpts from the article:
Building Industry Association of Southeastern Michigan also announced the launch of its new Web site at www.builders.org. The site offers a wealth of information for potential and current home owners including access to a list of professional master builders who have homes available in communities throughout southeastern Michigan.
The Web site also features a separate section for members of BIA and AAM that can be accessed using the member’s personal identification code.
